Schmidt, Joanne (Marriage - 4 Sept. 1956)

The Rev. G. M. Krueger, pastor of the Immanuel Lutheran Church, Marshfield, Wisconsin, officiated at the 2 p.m. ceremony, Tuesday, September 4, at which Miss Joanne Schmidt became the bride of Donald Edward Melander.

Parents of the young couple are Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Schmidt, Marshfield, and Mr. and Mrs. Edward Melander, route 1, Unity.

George Pingel, Marshfield, was organist and accompanied Miss Karen Nielsen of Spencer in the vocal selections, "The Lord’s Prayer," and "O Perfect Love."

As flower girl and ring bearer, Marjorie Hederer and Denis Riedel preceded the bride’s party into the church. They are from Colby and Granton, respectively, and are the bridegroom’s niece and the bride’s cousin. The former was seen in a dress featuring Chantilly lace bodice with sweetheart neckline, and a net-over-taffeta skirt. She carried pink and white carnations.

Chantilly lace also formed the bodices of the strapless gowns worn by the bridal aides, as well as their cover-up jackets with Peter Pan collars. Lace ruffles marked the meeting of the bodice line and the floor-length skirts of nylon net.

Ruffled net and tiny flowers to match their bouquets and gowns completed the ensembles for the trio of attendants, Miss Marjorie Schlinsog, of Marshfield, maid of honor, who carried dark pink and white carnations; Mrs. Eugene Rindfleisch, Spencer, carrying blue and white carnations, and Miss Yvonne Ringquist, Spencer, with yellow and white carnations in her bouquet.

As she walked down the aisle with her father, the bride was seen in a lace and net gown. The Chantilly lace bodice was fashioned with a jewel neckline and the long sleeves closed with satin buttons. The skirt was formed of alternate floor-length panels of lace and net. She carried a cascade bouquet of red roses and white carnations, and wore a sequin and pearl-trimmed crown to hold her illusion veil.

Ronald Schmidt of Marshfield, brother of the bride, was best man and Eugene Rindfleisch and Earl Kreuger, Spencer, served as groomsmen.

Ushers were Bill Wickham, Marshfield, and Jerry Boe of Spencer.

Guests were received by the newlyweds at the home of the bride’s parents, following the wedding and were entertained at a 5:30 p.m. dinner at the parish hall of the church. The wedding dance was staged at the Riverview ballroom.

For the day’s events, Mrs. Schmidt was attired in a suit of charcoal gray and white accented with black and white accessories and a corsage of red carnations and stephanotis. Deep pink carnations and stephanotis were in the corsage worn by Mrs. Melander, who was dressed in pink with pink and black accessories.

Following a Canadian honeymoon, the newlyweds will reside in Marshfield at 601 S. Vine St.

Mrs. Melander, a 1956 graduate of Marshfield Senior High School, has been employed as bookkeeper at Central State Bank, Marshfield, and her husband, a graduate of Spencer High School, is a plumber with Fred Schreiner and sons, also at Marshfield.

Friends and relatives from Spencer, Unity, Colby, Abbotsford, Stratford, Medford, Appleton, Milwaukee, Rib Lake and Chicago, were present for the wedding.
